The highly successful Japanese animated film, The First Slam Dunk, which became a box office sensation in Japan throughout 2023, will be available for streaming on Netflix in 75 countries starting August 25.
Initially premiering on Netflix Japan on June 10, the film now joins the platform’s growing anime selection, including popular titles such as Suzume and films from Studio Ghibli. Directed and written by Takehiko Inoue, the creator of the original Slam Dunk manga, the film showcases the high-stakes final basketball game—a fan-favorite moment from the series that had never before been animated.
The First Slam Dunk has received widespread acclaim across Asia, even winning the prestigious Japan Academy Prize for Best Animation. With its global release on Netflix, audiences worldwide will finally get to experience the drama and excitement of this much-celebrated film.
