Prime Video has announced the global premiere of its highly anticipated docuseries, ‘Angry Young Men’, set to debut on August 20. This three-episode series delves into the lives and careers of the legendary screenwriting duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, renowned for their monumental impact on Indian cinema in the 1970s and beyond.

The docuseries, produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media & Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, is directed by Namrata Rao, marking her directorial debut. Salma Khan, Salman Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti serve as executive producers. ‘Angry Young Men’ will be available exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories globally.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are celebrated as two of the most influential screenwriters in Indian cinema history. Their partnership in the 1970s introduced the “Angry Young Man” archetype—a character symbolizing the social discontent and quest for justice of the era. This persona, famously portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan in classics such as Sholay, Zanjeer, Deewaar, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Don, significantly altered the Bollywood landscape.

‘Angry Young Men’ offers more than a retrospective of Salim-Javed’s cinematic achievements. It provides an intimate exploration of their lives, creative processes, and the enduring impact of their work. The series features personal anecdotes and insights from distinguished figures in Indian cinema, giving viewers a comprehensive view of the duo’s legacy.

Manish Menghani, Director of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, expressed enthusiasm for the docuseries: “Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are pioneers who have profoundly influenced Indian cinema. ‘Angry Young Men’ goes beyond mere storytelling; it captures the essence of Hindi cinema and honors their extraordinary journey.” Menghani emphasized that the series celebrates not only the writers’ contributions but also their lasting influence on society and culture.

Salman Khan, whose production company plays a key role in the series, shared his personal connection: “Watching my father and Javed Sahab collaborate was magical. ‘Angry Young Men’ is a tribute to their creative genius and their transformative impact on Indian cinema. It offers a deep dive into the minds of two legendary writers who reshaped storytelling forever.”

Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar, integral to the project, also reflected on its significance. Zoya praised the emotional and cinematic depth of Salim-Javed’s work, while Farhan highlighted their enduring legacy: “Their journey was marked by grit, passion, and a drive to revolutionize Hindi cinema. ‘Angry Young Men’ is a testament to their genius and legacy.”

Set to captivate a global audience, ‘Angry Young Men’ underscores Prime Video’s commitment to delivering high-quality, culturally significant content. The docuseries will be available as part of Prime membership, offering extensive entertainment options for ₹1499 per year in India.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation is high for what promises to be a landmark docuseries. ‘Angry Young Men’ is not only a tribute to two iconic writers but also a celebration of the transformative power of cinema and the lasting impact of Salim-Javed’s work on the cultural fabric of India and beyond.
