Dish TV Posts Q1 Losses Amid Declining Subscription Revenue

Dish TV India reported a consolidated net loss of ₹1.56 crore for the first quarter of FY 2024-25, primarily due to a significant decline in subscription revenue. This marks a stark contrast to the same quarter in the previous fiscal year, where the direct-to-home (DTH) service provider recorded a net profit of ₹20.54 crore, according to a regulatory filing.

The company’s revenue from operations dropped to ₹455.29 crore, down from ₹500.16 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, as reported by PTI. Meanwhile, total expenses saw a slight decline of 2.71%, amounting to ₹462.56 crore. These expenses include costs related to goods and services, personnel, and other operational expenses.

Dish TV’s subscription revenue fell sharply, recording ₹306.2 crore in Q1 FY25, compared to ₹397.4 crore in the same period last year. However, there were some bright spots: advertising revenue increased by 7.2% to ₹9.7 crore, and income from marketing and promotional fees surged by 59.2% to ₹130.7 crore during the quarter.

Despite these gains, the overall operating revenue of Dish TV remained lower at ₹455.3 crore, down from ₹500.2 crore in the previous year. The total income, including other income, also declined by 8.38%, totaling ₹461 crore.

Although the company did not disclose its current subscription base, it noted signs of recovery in rural areas, which house a significant portion of its DTH subscriber base. Dish TV expressed optimism about a potential revival in entertainment spending in these regions, suggesting that subscriber traction might become evident in the third quarter of the fiscal year.
